One problem with assembling rovers is that the External Seat has no mini-icon, making it very tricky to drag it into the container in the VAB/SPH. Once the rover is completely assembled, I switch to the rover and decouple the rover. It may save you a lot of time during the update. If you follow this path, then all the KIS dependencies will be updated automatically.

I attach a probe core to the rover (just in cash it decides to run off), along with batteries and power source. Search for 'Kerbal Inventory System' or just 'KIS', then install the mod.
